Just finished "Flyboys" by James Bradley, he is the author of "Flags Of Our Fathers" the book which Clint Eastwood is filming on Iwo Jima.
The book is the latest information released in the late 1990s as to what happened to 8 pilots shot down over Chichi Ima. One other pilot parachuted into the ocean and was rescued, he is president Bush (the first one). The book is to document the barbarous treatment of the POWs by the Japanese. But for some reason the author feels the need to go back to Cmd Perry's landing in the 1800s. He also feels he needs to have some moral equavilency between the Japanese in China and the US govt treatment of American Indians. The book is not for the weak stomached, and delves into ritualistic cannablism practiced by the Imperial Japanese Army.
