The 'Old' Stalingrad Movie - but finally better

Not sure of release dates for outside of the UK, but the 'old' Stalingrad movie is due for an anniversary release on 28th July in the original German language with English subtitles rather than the awfully dubbed version...

Despite it's age, this version is far superior, IMHO, to the awful recent Russian production.

Though the fact that Kretschmann starred in both productions will make for an interesting Trivial Pursuit/Jeopardy question in the future.

Does anyone know of a precedent for this kind of space-time circling achievement (same title, same event, 'almost' the same character, different country, different perspective, different narrative, different decade/century/millennium) in international movie-making history?

I do know that poor Thomas should have a least been promoted above a hauptmann's rank after 30 years!

I watched the new version on the flight to Normandy...It was ok...it didn't hold a candle to the 94 version...That is my favorite WW 2 movie...
