    most detailed STALINGRAD book ?

My birthday is coming up and I am lodging my gift orders with the family.
What better gift order than a Stalingrad compendium !
Can someone please recommend the most comprehensive work on Stalingrad so that I may purchase.
I am looking for the most detailed and thorough analysis. Doesnt have to read well, as long it is packed with close detail of the Stalingrad months, particulary from the German viewpoint.
I have always wished for a big encyclopedic compendium on Stalingrad along the lines of the works published by Fedorowicz, but there only seems to be fairly small paperbacks out there. Perhaps I am wrong ?

    Thanks for any advice.

I would recommend Anthony Beevor's Stalingrad which was a big success when published here a few years ago. It has a lot of tactical info as well as personal accounts from both sides although reads slightly pro Russian to me.

Another good but rather dated book from the German point of view is 'Stalingrad: Memories and Reassments' by Joachim Wieder and Heinrich Graf von Einsiedel. Ahead of its time in accuracy when published in the 60s.

By far and away my favourite is 'Enemy at the Gates' by Wiliam Craig which is a very human look at the battle and its consequences told from all sides with bias towards none. A very moving book and reads very well.

'Gefangen in Stalingrad' by Franz Zapp who was an Austrian Gefreiter is a comprehensive account with loads of great private photos although i think this may only be available in German language. Worth learning German just to read this one!

In no particular order these are excellent

        Stalingrad - Anthony Beevor

Enemy at the Gates - William Craig

Blood Red Snow - Gunther Koschorrek

The following were initially published in 1957 or 1958, but well worth the search.

The Forsaken Army - Heinrich Gerlach

        Stalingrad - Heinz Schroter
