    New helmet book

    Gentlemen,

Schiffer's web site says the two volumes on German Helmets of the Second World War by Branislav Radovic is available but they don't have a link to order them -- which surprised me.

However, I just got a catalog from Hamilton Booksellers, noted for selling remaindered books at discounts, and voila, there is Vol. 1 of Branislav Radovic's book that covers the M1916-18, M1932, M1935, M1940, M1942, and the M1942/45 helmets at $59.95 instead of the published price of $79.95. That's a $20 savings and I just sent off a check myself. The book's catalog number is 1613456 from Hamilton.

If you don't get their catalog and want to take advantage of this reduced price (plus $3.50 postage), you can check their web site at EdwardRHamilton.com.

This firm doesn't take phone orders or credit cards but I've gotten a number of books from them very promptly with just a check in the past.

This is not an advertisement for Hamilton from me -- just a note that may help any of you helmet collectors who want this latest reference book to save $20 over the price it'll cost you elsewhere.

The opinion of the Stahlhelm Group Fuhrer at MSN is that Vol 1 is a coffee table book, Vol. 2 has good info & is worth getting. (I have not seen either one).

          I saw the books too...

Greetings gentlemen: I too like Perry have seen the new books and I must agree, there were some obvious fakes. The photos are wonderful, clear, big and crisp...a real pleasure to look at, but then one hits you like a ton of bricks as wrong. It reminds me of what my Dad told me a long time ago..."Just because it is in print does not make it right or true". Skip

I too just got the two volume set. But I'm just not a helmet expert and can't spot all the fakes. So I think it would be very helpfull to all of us who just bought the set if somebody could point out on which pages the obvious fakes are.

In general, the "basic"helmets look pretty good. I was suspicious of the "foreign voluteer" helmets, some of the SS helmets and some of the camos

                Books

I just ordered both books last night from Hamilton.
I have heard all the things you guys have mentioned about the fakes.
At least we have a reference to study some of the fakes.

Thanks again Ralph for the tip on the price.

                Matt

I have both volumes and agree that the layout is well done overall. The photos are in colour and are clear, and with the large format you don't have to look through a microscope to observe the images. I also agree with those whose thoughts are that there are some questionable (regarding period authenticity) pieces included. Overall though, I'm pleased with the set.

I'd like to see in a future work more technical information (along the lines of Baer's book) and with the larger format as with these two volumes.

Does anyone know if additional works are currently in process (helmet references) by other authors??

                  Thanks,
                  Don

Yes, Mike Beaver has a SS headgear book coming out I heard in the next year. If it's like his other works it will be impressive...
