I read a book on my vacation this year that I thought was really superb. Its called 'Fighting with the Sceaming Eagles: with the 101st airborne from Normandy to Bastogne". It was written by Robert Bowen, and is his autobiography of military service. He was a glider infantryman. Usually the paratroopers in the 101st get the glory, but glidermen were right there with them. The thing that makes this narrative really unique is that it was written right after the war, when things were still fresh in his mind. His writing is superb, and gives what I consider to be an exceptionally accurate, unvarnished account of what combat in the ETO was like. As far as battle narratives go, I would rank this one up there w/ Sledge's "With the Old Breed".....recommended!
