Hello,
A Russian film that I have seen recently seen is titled 'Come and See'. It had english subtitles. I'm not sure if its available with other languages.
Website here: http://comeandseemovie.com/
It is a very well made film, powerful and beautiful at times. For those who might be interested, keep in mind that it is from the Russian point of view. If you are looking for a movie which portrays the German soldier with some sympathy, this is not it.
Best,
B.A.Vierling

'Come and See' is a must see. It is about the most historically accurate depiction, at least in modern film of how some villages in Belorussia, or Ukraine were destroyed by rear echelon German units when conducting anti-partisan operations.
Imo, irregardless of the film makers national origin it was from a historical stand point very well done.

Some movies I bought on ebay recently, one is subtitled the other two are not.
'Sniper' is based during Western offensives in the spring 1944 and the central characters are recon guys trying to get intel before the next push. There is a very attractive sniper who has been called up to deal with German snipers in the area. It is in 4 parts and I believe was a mini-series in Russia.
'Klim Vorishilov Tank II' is only in Russian. It is about a KV2 crew that gets their Tank stuck when they collapse a bridge during the early retreats in 1941. They go to the local village to get help pulling it out with mixed results.
The other is only in Russian and translates as We Lived as Dogs or something similar. It is also in four parts and is about a Partizan group and the efforts they did to disrupt the local German units.
A fun comedy is 'Eugene and little Katy'.
It is about a dreamer (Think Gilligan) in a Russian Katyusha battery who has adventures and hooks up with the radio operator who is also named Katy (like the rocket launcher, Russian humor)

Yes, I'll reiterate that it IS a very good film. Cinematography alone is worth watching. The poignant art direction is deeply moving.

Come and See isn't really a war film like we usually define them. There isn't much combat, or the giving of orders, etc. It's more about bands German Soldiers terrorizing the rural civilian Russian population. For those on this forum the portrayal of the actual German soldiers might be a bit much for you (a large amount of rape and pillage and other war crimes). I know these things happened but I think it is important to note (without offending anyone) that where and when a movie is made is absolutely important in judging the subject matter. This movie was made during the Cold War in the Soviet Union. With all that said I'd still watch it (I own it and have watched it a couple times). I like the young Russian girl she and the boy are very well portrayed.

The Russian film industry at the time of the films production was state controled. State control over Come and See although certainly present was not really neccessary due to the amount of existing factual evidence surrounding such operations that the director could draw from. That the historical evidence is not particularly kind towards the occupiers is one that would be expected. Due to the subject matter used for the film it is also understandable that the director decided not to turn the film into something it was not as it relates to the historical record of such operations. The mountain of existing factual evidence on such operations is just too damning against those involved. Think of it along the same lines if a West German director at that time had made a film on the Russian military in East Prussia, or Berlin 1945 as they impacted the German populace. It would certainly have shown the Russian soldier in an equally unfavorable manner due to the existing historical record of what occured at that time.
As an aside, the director of Come and See did include some of the cast as Russian Auxiliaries supporting the Germans. Such Auxiliary personnel were directly involved in such operations. There were also Russian Partisan bands that were just as dangerous to the local civilian population in the countryside as any German forces ever were.
