Today on msnbc they told the story of hugo Yeager , who was one of hitlers photographers, but took all his photos at the time in color. After the war hugo buried thousands of negatives etc, and in recent years dug them up, and sold the lot to life magazine. (life.com) There are only 18 shots in this expose, but we are all waiting to see the colllection someday when life makes them available. Of course they want to get rich and sell them, as copies. So it may be years till we ever get to see them all. heres the link. http://www.life.com/image/50714733/i...itler-up-close

This MSNBC story is a misnomer. The Jaeger photos, and there are hundreds of them, have already been released as far back as May 1970 by Life Magazine. And all of the them can be found on the Gettyimages web site. Many of the photos have already been published in various books by Arndt Verlag etc. MSNBC is about 35 years too late with this story.

To expand just a bit on Jaeger's collection.
Jaeger's assocication with Time Life goes back to the 50's. My mom purchased Time Life's Illustrated History of WWII for my birthday back in 1962.
In this book there appear several Jaeger images.
Come forward to the late 60's Jaeger has sold his rights to his pictures to Time Life. Life Magazine published an issue of Life with astronaut Jim Lovell's picture on the cover. Within the pages of this issue there was a spread of Jaeger pictures as well as a thumbnail story about Jaeger himself.
Shortly after this appearance, Time Life conjured up plans to publish a subtantial number of the pictures in a book tentatively entitled "A Hidden Glimpse into the Third Reich." I had 2 friends in the publishing industry who were privy to these plans. Word of this plan naturally made its way out of the boardrooms of Time Life and soon the West German government weighed in with major objections along the lines of 'this will glorify Hitler and his Movement.' Time Life, in the face of such objections of this nature shelved its plans for this book.
Along come the middle 70's and Time Life came out with their History of the Second World War and many of the Jaeger pictures finally saw the light of day.
Come the late 80's through the auspices of one of my friends referenced above, I had the opportunity to view the collection in person. I looked at over 2500 pictures until my eyes were glazed over. This was an experience I still thank my stars as having had. Many of the pictures were without captions and where I could, I penciled captions on sheets of paper and submitted them.
While Jaeger receives the bulk of the public's acknowledgement of having color photos of Hitler, et. al., one shouldn't overlook the work of Walter Frentz who similarly created several thousand color photographs. It is these pictures that are sometimes seen in books published in Germany such as the Ardnt publications. Their release is, as I understand it, controlled by Frentz's son. Author David Irving has worked with the Frentz materials and some can be seen in his books.
Hope this has been of interest.
Cheers,
Ramon
