I recently recieved the new Schiffer Publishing book "Luftwaffe Generals", by Jeremy Dixon, which provides relatively short biographies on all Luftwaffe generals that were awarded the Knights Cross.
The recipients are listed in order of the highest grade awarded, with Goring first of course, as the only recipient of the Grand Cross, then diamonds recipents, swords, and so on. Each has at least one photo as well.
Certainly, I learned something about a number of generals that I had not been familiar with, and the book can be used as a decent reference source, in my opinion, but it is again, another overpriced Schiffer book, rife with spelling errors, and poor grammar. It appears to have had little, if any editing done by the publisher. Schiffer,and Amazon, where I purchased the book, both list it having 352 pages, when it is actually only 238 pages! How can you make a mistake like that?
For the list price of $69.95, I would have been angry at the end result, for Amazon's price of $44, with free shipping, I found it acceptable.
I realize that these books have a very limited audience, and that we should be grateful to Schiffer for their publication but at the same time, the prices on books of this ilk should be a reflection of their quality, and that I find sorely lacking on this one, as well as many others published by Schiffer.

The Biblio Verlag 3 vols set on Luft Generals has more data for each and covers all Luft Generals.

Robert, Schiffer´s website has quite often wrong page count but their printed catalogue has had so far the correct number.

Mark, isn´t Biblio´s series in German so the comparison isn´t exactly valid...

I'm in the process of writing a book for Schiffer Publishing. I can tell you that Schiffer does not edit manuscripts. Authors are required to edit their own work and submit manuscripts to Schiffer according to their format. Schiffer simply does the layout and prints the book.

I think this is an excellent book....filled with some great mini-biographies on the Generals, and also a lot of photos I've never seen before. It's much better than some of the other well known reference books out there that seem to be just cut and paste jobs of the basic outline of the soldiers military record, reiterating what can be easily found with just a little research. This book offers a bit of insight as to the personalities of the individuals, which is a very nice touch.

You can never have enough reference, in my opinion, and in regards to the price, well, just wait a few years until it is out of print and then it will be going for three or four times what it lists for today.

While I agree with your assessment of reference books, Schiffer books do not go out of print unless a 2nd, 3rd, etc edition is released. They print their books continuously.

Line data in words known by most any reader, not a langauage barrier for anyone except the newest reader with minimal or no knowledge of Luftwaffe.
