    Their darkest hour

I’m about 3/4 of the way through their darkest hour by Lawrence Rees (ISBN 978-0-090191759-3)
Mr Rees has spent 20 or so years interviewing people about there part/experiences in ww2 .He is the author of many books as I’m sure most of you are aware. This book focuses on 35 accounts from his studies. It focus’s on people being tested during extreme times and the horrors that they commited. The people are from all nations, from Japanese farmers to a Belgium "mayors son”. I for one brought this book as I enjoy reading memoirs rather than long and involved strategic books. Over the many books I have read I have always thought to myself how can people commit the ghastly actions I have read about this book does not try to justify these actions but bring their attention to the reader and how some of these people felt then and now. It may not be every ones cup of tea but I am finding it very interesting. I hope this helps if any one has come across it at the book store and is considering buying it.
