    My First Luftwaffe Textbook!

When searching through my bookcase I came across my first "textbook" on the Luftwaffe, purchased around 1961 or thereabouts! Now, I know some members will cry "I wasn't born then!" (eg Francois) .... but I thought you 'younger' collectors should see how tough it was for collectors in the 'old' days. In fact, this post may remind you of that famous Monty Python skit "The Four Yorkshiremen" ... one-upmanship on the hardships of life! With regard to the uniform illustration - read the text carefully. And note also the Army buckle .... "you 'kids' sure have got it easy!!"

On a serious note, the illustrations are by John Weal who contributes to the current "Osprey Aircraft of the Aces" series.

    Happy collecting
    Paul

Paul you weren't kidding when you said you had it tough. All I see is white box's with a red 'x'. Are they reproductions?

Sorry guys ... it's pretty hard posting these damn images when you're 101 years old and have been staring at badges for most of that time!!

          Looks like a great book!

If you first don’t get the impression you are reading a war time comic book, those classy photos will definitely throw you.

Just the sort of informative, fully colour illustrated reference you need to spot those fakes on ebay. Here’s a quiz, how many errors of information can you spot in the text? I can spot 2.

            Hey Dez

Is it any wonder that one of my early purchases (then aged 15yrs)was a Souval Pilot Observer ... it looked great when compared with the reference book!!!

            Regards
            Paul

              Souval

Paul, you must have purchased that badge when Souval gear was still reasonably good. Remember all those numbered assault badges with the Araldite adhesive oozed around the number boxes ? Some of his stuff, less faniliar medals like the Mussert Cross must be getting a really nice patina by now
