    Help with wartime music

    Hi guys,

I'm not sure where to post my question, but this part of the forum might be a good start. Just recently, I bought the music CD from the movie 'Der Untergang' or 'Downfall'. This is a true masterpiece for me as I fell for the dark sphere.
Yet, two songs jump out compared to the others. One is from Zarah Leander, called 'Davon geht die Welt nicht Unter'. The other one is 'Blutrote Rosen'.
I would be very pleased to learn about similar songs and artists. These are not military marches, but the music that played in wartime Germany and - probably - abroad. As a novice in this world, I look forward to your advice

    Thanks!
    Laurens

    Hi Laurens,

Good to see someone who is interested in German period music rather than the usual Nazi march songs!
I recently returned from Germany and while there bought a 10 CD box set of popular German 1930's-40's songs entitled "Die Grossen Divas" which contains the music of Marlene Dietrich, Marika Rock, Ilse Werner, Lale Andersen, Zara Leander, Lilian Harvey and several other period performers for only 17 Euros.
Amazon.de should have most period titles available.
Also, there is a series entitled "Heimat deine Sterne" which covers the same sort of period songs - If you are really keen you could also check out Hans Albers!

    Best regards,

    John.
