JPhillip, just while you are on the subject of the 1944 patten uniform, what is story with the bayonet? The books claims this is a "new pattern" I've never seen one like this? Is it period? Also is the butter dish correct?

      Cheers

Hi Ian, I can answer your question as i have the book too.

The butter dish is a postwar BGS issue item.

The SG42 bayonet is a rare late war item. See this thread:

a search on the forum will bring up more info.

        Cheers, Ade.

Ade answered the questions and provided a good link...
like i said before, it would take all night/day to point all incorrect things, anachronisms or fake items displayed in this book.
There are some differences between both versions of the book. I did purchase the first one when it was published in 1994 and the second one was offered to me by someone involved in the remaking of the book. I told this person many times that the book needed to be entirely reviewed before being published again, but very little was made in order to correct the wrong things. It is mainly a simple relooking.

Thanks Ade and JP, for the link and the clarification on the bayonet and butter dish.

            Cheers

I have had this book for years. While it serves a purpose and I enjoy the photos, it is far from a masterpiece. Lots of nonsense in it.

A mix of good and bad/put together stuff. Have a good look above the wearers right pocket on the W-SS M-44 Jacket on page #122 as an example.

What sharp eyes you have Glenn McInnes.
No wonder that Grenadier looks unhappy.

I purchased the book in question in the 90's (although I have not purchased the more up-to-date edition) and I have to say although the subject matter was literally mouth-watering, it did seem to good to be true as it were. Now, with the benefit of hindsight, and even with some light being shed on the originality of some pieces, it is still woth having (in my opinion anyway)

Shortly after purchasing the said book, the one below followed..........any opinions?

                    Regards Richard.

Hi Richard, I have that one too.

Again some good peices, but mixed with bad. I basically bought it for the British section, where some of the insignia is bad.

                      Cheers, Ade.

                        Hi Ady

I purchased the book mainly for the 'Hitlerjugend' and 'Parachute Regiment' sections.

I would be interested to see some feedback concerning these 2 sections, inparticular, the Waffen-SS uniforms.

                        Regards Richard.

I'm not here to defend Pierre-Ange Caravanno and Jean de Lagrange (Lagarde is a writer pseudo) or HSC, i have no dog in this race, but as far as i'm concerned i think that before ending to the dark side of the force, they have been pioneers in militaria collecting, articles writing, archives searching. What they have done in the middle of the nineties can't erase what has been done before and it was a good job.

Well, these "pionneers" started with the dark side of the force already in the 80's (not for their own collectins of course)...
