In Deadly Combat, A German Soldier's Memoir of The Eastern Front
    Gottlob Herbert Bidermann
Translated & Edited By Derek S. Zumbro

The book is a very well put together first person account of the Eastern Front as seen by Lt. Bidermann, 132nd Infantry Division, up to the brutality of the Soviet Gulags." From Sevastopol, to Leningrad and the Courland pocket its great to read a" this was the way it was no holding back" straight forward read. Lt. Bidermann's awards include the German Cross in Gold, the Gold Wound Badge, and the Honor Roll Clasp The book is put out by University Press of Kansas, Modern War Studies.
I highly recommend this book and it can be picked up at Barnes and Noble.

I am about 2/3 of the way through it and agree with John. I do not often read the personal accounts but this one is well written and very enjoyable.
