So last night a girlfriend comes over and begins to gently nag me that we don't do anything... ..so we (I ) finally agree to brave the cold wind and rent a DVD from Blockbuster...well, I'm grumpy but she picks Red Dawn even though she's seen it before...well, it was great.

Its the true story of Dieter Dengler, the German-born (his dad was killed serving in the Wehrmacht during WWII) U.S. Navy pilot who was shot-down over Laos and managed to escape VC captivity. Christian Bale plays the now deceased Dengler and does a magnificent job.

If you're a war movie buff, this is a great movie (and its the second time I've seen Bale eat worms in captivity--he plays a young English boy held by the Japanese in China in Spielberg's "Empire of the Sun").

AWESOME movie.

Apparently it strays from the true story quite a bit, but still a very well done Vietnam war movie.

Excellent movie, it's a shame that it received the shaft in terms of advertisement. Only saw one commercial for it, and off the bat, knew it was going to be a great film and continued to follow it.
