yes, this movie looks a lot better than Flags of our Fathers.
Whilst Flags of our fathers was a good movie, there was too little combat in it for me. If you are going to make a war movie, then make a damn war movie. That is what I say.
This Jap version looks like there is a ton more combat and storyline actually based on Iwo. Should be a a good watch.

The other movie about the Yamato was a bit of a fizzer. Better than some, but still well below par. The combat scenes looked terribly "stage set".

Just go to Youtube and you download most of the good bits.

of course it will be shown in the states. It is a Clint Eastwood movie.
He made Flags of our Fathers and Letters from Iwo Jima as a combination movie release, telling both sides of the stories in two movies.

                  2oth Of December

Yes the 20th of december in the u.s in that 2nd link of mine,as for NZ not to shure, but maybe next january or february maybe?.
And i did want lots of action for the first movie, but then it also was based on a book to,so they would have stuck by that i think,as for the japanese one it says based on a book too called picture letters from commander in chief ?(Must be the japanese to english translation i think),and by general tadamichi kuribayashi played by ken watanabe in the movie. So im not shure but i think he killed himself during the battle or near the end of it?,so they must have found his letters for that book.
This movie it says "Almost like a memoir of one of the Japanese soldiers, it primarily follows the story of two good friends serving in the Japanese forces. The men watch helplessly throughout various battles as their comrades are killed, many of them becoming almost suicidal".

Eastwood was on Charlie Rose last night and I was really impressed by what he said about this film. It looks to be really good and was made as a companion piece to flags.
As an aside-see CSPAN2 about pearl Harbor. I'll post that in the US forum.

Sorry FJ, missed that one too. LOL. I did read that it is going to be limited to East and West coast for release and a few places in between to start.
