I just finished "To The Last Man" by Jeff Shaara (who also wrote "Gods and Generals", which was a movie). I almost put the book down in the first chapter because of a corny death scene. But staid with it. It's about WWI. It has about 4 or 5 characters, Pershing, Richtofen, Lufberry and a grunt named Temple. Most of the writings of the famous people are taken from their their memoirs.
It does do a good job of pointing out the problems with the French and British military. Of course from Pershing's view. Overall not a bad read if you want a simplified history (from 1917 till the end) of the Great War.
