New Tiger 1 high tech kits

Has anybody seen the new 1/35 scale Tiger I kits released by Dragon and AFV club? Unbelievable. Working torsion bars, photo etch parts, aluminum turned barrels with spring recoil.

In the Dragon kit, the miniscule vision slits on the commander's cupola are open, and there's even a clear plastic periscope "glass" to go behind it. Comes with a bunch of turned brass shells, even the cables for the headlights and the smoke discharger mounts are pre-bent to contour.

Cheap too, I got mine at an IPMS show for $30, big fat box packed tight full of plastic. 500 parts. Remember the old Gunze "High Tech" kits that retailed for $100? These are way better. Just magnificent.

Had another look in the box this evening. The entertainment value alone is worth the $30!

The Dragon kit comes with a snorkel option, and some odd optional "elephant ear" stowage bins for the turret. It has some nice photo etch parts including center ribs for Jerry cans.

It does not however, have mesh screen for the radiator fan openings on the engine deck. Funny how they left that out?

The fan grilles do have interior contour which I've never seen or noticed before. The individual track links friction fit together, and the kit even provides a jig to hold them to the right position to drape over the drive wheels. There's also a plastic bending jig for some of the brass parts.

A very cool kit for the money. It's the only one I know that has the earliest storage bins included. I got mine several weeks ago at my local hobby shop. With the IPMS discount it was a shade over $30 out the door. Now I got to find time to build it!

From what I understand, Dragon is aiming at shutting out the other big name kit companies with these mega-feature/detail kits. Few other companies can price compete with what Dragon is producing. I've got one of Dragon"s 3-in-1 German Half-Track kits and it's packed with extras

                        Ebay does it!

                        Hi,

Ebay is always an option, you'll get one from there for around $30 + shipping

                        http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...sPageName=WD2V

                        Looks like it's well worth $30 +

                        Regards,
                        Jason

                          Hi Guys,

Well after reading about the DRAGON high teck kits I just bought two King Tigers one with the Henschel turrent and one with the Porsche turrent, both were quite cheap. As discussed the detail is great, however I have a few questions about the kits if someone can help out.

Should I paint all the parts on the trees first?

I am having trouble putting the track pieces together, they just won't seem to stay fixed in place without any glue on them, this I have not done yet but getting close if I can't find a way to hold them together and straight. Any help appreciated.

                          Regards,

                          Anthony

I have just purchased an example of this kit after seeing this thread and I have to say the kit in itself is incredible. However, as has already been said, the mesh screens have been left out, can anyone suggest a good company to purchase a photo-etched set from? Also, does anyone make a complete interior for this mark of Tiger? Any help will be well recieved, thanks in advance.

                            Regards Richard.

                              Mesh screens

There is some debatre as to whether these early tigers went to the front with mesh screens over the intakes or not. Some photos from Russian sources of captured vehicles show no screens.
