    Bf-109 Legion Condor

    Here's my Tamiya 1/48 Bf-109 E3 flown by Hans Schmoller-Haldy in Spain.

There's much debate about the top colour, green or grey. I chose green purely because it looked good.

Great work Mike ! You have applied those decals really well, what is your secret ? They are my downfall, I use micro sol and set but I am still missing something

        Thanks Nick.

Most important is a smooth, glossy base. I use Johnson's Long Life floor polish sprayed neat. I believe it's called Future in your part of the world.

Also, I use Gunze's Mr Mark Softener. It's very powerful and may damage some delicate decals although I've never had a problem.

Leave the decals at least 12 hours to fully dry, gently wash away traces of setting solution and then spray another coat of Future.

        Regards, Mike.

The colour was grey. A very light grey. Under that there was a green primer. I know it because I had one in my hands

                            Carles,

I like your diorama and display.

I tend to agree with you about the camouflage being RLM02 grey or similar. A few sources reckon it was Green 62, including author and researcher Ken Merrick. This is the problem trying to interpret old black & white photos. In some photos, the top colour looks very dark.

I painted the model green as it looked attractive.

You mention a green primer. Is there a chance this is the original Luftwaffe colours, 70 and 71?

                            Mike

Hello Mike, the good thing is I didn't interpret any photo. I just had to clean some metal parts that still had some paint. Perhaps along the SCW colours changed, I don't know, but the last batch of Messers 109 that arrived in Spain late 1938 were this light grey. The numbers went up to 6-131, so 6-130 was one of the latest, I guess your 6-123 was in the same lot, as they were all E-3s.
