For Dietrich- My first figure painted

I tried my first 1/16th tank crewman today. I have always built the tanks but never tried to paint a crewman until today. With the careful bracing of my shaky hands I gave it a try. Used Valejo and Tamiya acrylics with the lips and shading of the face with oils. I am pretty happy with the result , but I see a few things I will try different with the next one. It is crazy, I can see things in these pictures that no matter how hard I look I cannot see with my naked eyes. Might have to invest in a magnifier with stand. I did not show the Sherman because I have not done any weathering on the tank yet.
    best wishes,
    jeff

Very nice job on the figure. He sort of reminds me of the gruff old sgt in the movie Battleground

Very nicely done Jeff...I really like the way it turned out. I dont know how you can say you dont have the hand or patience for 1/35 scale.

I have never used artist oil...where did you learn how to use those?

See Jeff, this is exactly what I mean! You never know unless you try! You tried and you had fun and it turned out to be very, very good! I am impressed.

You know, with the figures I would not be to sensitive regarding details. Always step back to the distance of observation (arm length). Nobody goes that close normally. And up close we all look very imperfect..

With the ships it is =different. You need something. I use the contraption attached. This improved the quality ten fold!!!

There are real masters in this field and we will not reach this level. And we don't want to. We will have fun and we are proud of our work. And that should and is enough!

            Thanks guys!

Chris- many years ago my sister gave me an oil painting set. I never used it for its intended purposes. One day I read in a modeling magazine about the use of oils for weathering and I hauled out the set and started experimenting. Now, I love using oils.

Dietrich- the figure looks great up close with the naked eye but when I fill my whole computer screen with a picture of his head it is not as good.
Yes- that visor is just what I need!
            best wishes,
            jeff

Looks awesome Jeff. I bought a magnifier on a flexible mount that has a big clamp at the end, for attaching to the work table. This worked very well with a regular desk lamp. I wish I had the time to finish the models I have started building.
              Cheers,
              Brian

Very nice work. I understand figures being difficult. I can't seem to get the faces down. Good work.
