We were lucky enough to manage a visit to the Deutsches Technikmuseum in
Berlin a few weeks back, and I was in awe of their Messerschmitt Bf 110 F-2
(W.Nr. 5052) LN + NR that is on display on the top floor of the museum.
The aircraft was raised from a lake in 1992 near Murmansk where it was brought
down by ground fire whilst attacking a train between Murmansk and Leningrad
on the 11th of January 1943. The aircraft belly landed on a frozen lake, and that is
where it stayed until being recovered in 1992.
The 110 was from 13 (Z)/JG 5 flying out of its base in Kemisharvi, Finland when
it was lost.
I am not sure if the crew survived the war or not.
Some photos I took during our visit....
