    2nd Armored Normandy Impression-Need Advice

Cross posted from the US forum:

Default 2nd Armored Normandy Impression-Need Advice
I'm going to visit Normandy for the 75th anniversary of D-Day and want to take with me a set of accurate uniforms for a combat infantryman or engineer. A family friend was there with the 2nd Armored "He'll on Wheels" from the beginning of the Normandy campaign all the way to the end of the war.

Here is what I was planning on for an impression.

    1. M41 Jacket
    2. Wool button up shirt
    3. HBT pants
    4. M36 suspenders
    5. Pistol belt or cartridge belt
    6. Gaiters
    7. Roughout boots
    8. ?

I'm not sure what would have been worn for headgear outside of an M1 steel helmet. Any other options that don't weigh so much that would allow me to complete the look? I'm thinking not necessarily combat dress, but while they were resting and befitting or perhaps on a break after being replaced from the front.

    Thanks for the help!
