    Gettysburg

The Farnsworth house also is a good place to see. It has a great restaurant which I highly recommend. Rebel snipers were up in the attic during the battles. Smitty

Well the Gettysburg trip was a success. Thanks to all who made suggestions.

Our first stop (and a welcome respite from the nervy stupidity that is the Pennsylvania Turnpike) was at Shanksville and the Fiight 93 memorial. We had been there before and wanted to see the new bell tower. The tower was quite nice but the bells were disappointment. There were only 6 in place which didn't sound much better than cow bells. The rest are slated to be in place later in 2019. Hopefully they'll sound better?

Then on to Gettysburg. Stayed at the Windham outside of town. We didn't do much on aside from a Thanksgiving buffet at the Farnsworth House. On Friday we started at the visitor's center which was quite nice. The museum was in my opinion quite incredible, and the cyclorama was quite a sight as well. I was very taken how they morphed the diorama portion into the painted scenery. We hired a guide, who drove our car, for a 2 hour tour of the battlefields. It was well worth the money and I can't imagine touring the park other way.

On Saturday we backtracked to Mr. Ed's Elephant Museum and Candy Emporium, then to the Military Museum. Sadly only the gift shop part was open given that the building wasn't heated and the indoor temps were in the 30s and 40s (so he claimed). Was a bit miffed at that, but he recommended the Gettysburg Museum of History. That place was pretty incredible as well, though small. They had some real stuff - Highlights of the AH related things were a stool from the bunker and a bloodstained swatch from the couch AH committed suicide on. And an AH shirt and an an Eva Braun undergarment (a slip). My son bought some bullets there. We couldn't do the Ghost tour of the Jenny Wade house because it starts as a walking tour and was cancelled because it was raining. Had a few good, if expensive meals at the Inn at Herr Ridge and Garry Owen, among others.

In all now that I've come to grips with having hemorrhaged $$ for five days, I think it was a great trip, and I look forward to going back again sometime.

Thanks again to all who made suggestions and shared experiences.
