Let me preface this by saying that I am a student and collector of the SS and SS arms for well over 30 years. However my studies and fascination with this subject are akin to the study of aberrant and criminal behavior. Extremely interesting but nothing I admire or would seek to replicate.
That said - if such an imbecile showed up dressed in that SS garb at my local bar he'd wind up in short order on the train tracks behind it. And I doubt very much the local PD after examining the kibbles, bits and SS uniform parts would waste much time on that case.
Now if such an imbecile, for whatever reason, showed up knocking on my door - I would render him. I would then be asked to prove I reasonably felt that I was in imminent danger of great bodily harm. The qualification for using deadly force. I would respond - ummmm black SS uniform, skulls, swastikas, raised by a WW2 veteran, grew up watching 'Combat', 'The Rat Patrol' etc..... Taught since about birth, Nazis bad, SS worse, concentration camps, etc. What was I supposed to do - invite him in for coffee and see what happens? Apologies if in the heat of the moment I did not consider the boundaries of his rights to dress as an SS officer when and wherever he pleases. At the end of the day I doubt there would be a court in the land or jury of my peers that would consider my actions unreasonable.
God knows that if you switched the attire in the above scenarios to KKK garb there would be no question about outcomes or consequences.
So while indeed it is a "free f...ing world", the boundaries of acceptable behavior need to be recognized and accepted if our hobby is to continue and to thrive. Precisely because good/bad or indifferent - people do judge. As well they should.

Precisely because its a free world we are all entitled to judge, to have an opinion, to pass comment. I mean seriously if you think Nazi Germany is so great why don't you go live there?
