I have a Luftwaffe Helmet found in the attic of an abandoned house near the former Luftwaffe Evlampiyevskiy Airfield near Stalingrad. I can find the location on Google Earth and a flight entry from 1942 by a Pilot who flew out of the Airfield. Anyone have more information on the Airfield and it's History?
"Left Evlampiyevskiy Base enroute to patrol sector 378/8 bear Pobeda Oktyabrya for attack aircraft. Just after takeoff observed Yak1 within base sector and engaged inflicting serious damage however no confirmation on that kill. Proceeded to patrol area and managed to down 1 IL2, before heavy damage colliding with victim. Crash landed near vicinity, near friendly units and made it back to base.
