I was at a parade today and there was a float with veterans from WW 2 through Vietnam being honored and riding on it. The oldest was 103 and had been in the Big Red 1 including Normandy. It was difficult to hear with all the noise but he was in the third wave. Another fellow was with the 106 Inf. Div. and was captured in the Bulge and subsequently in four different POW camps. The youngest was 15 when he joined the US Navy (born in 1927) and fudged his age saying he was born in '25. He served on assault craft. There were two US Marine vets I didn't get to but it was quite a historical collection on one small float. The evening was rather cool and I'm sure the vets were worn out after it was over. All of the WW 2 veterans seemed to be in good health to turn out for such an evening in a Mardi Gras parade.
