Going to have a couple weeks vacation and rent a car. Are there any must see or interesting WWI or WWII sites in South Tirol or very Northern Italy to see?

Loads of WWI all over the italian North-East alpine area (trenches almost everywhere, quite a lot of museums, monuments, cemeteries etc.etc.) very few of WWII still on place (few bunkers on the coasts, few monuments or plates, a huge german Cemetery in Costermano).
You should move just a bit norther, like Carinthia, Steiermark, Lower Germany, you gonna find quite a lot of interesting almost everywhere.
