Gdansk
In Gdansk, you can visit Westerplatte. This is where first shots of WWII were fired. Polish crew of about 150 soldiers resisted multiple German formations backed up by the firepower of Schlezwig-Holstein battleship for 7 days. Their commander as a sign of respect was allowed to wear his sword in the POW camp. There are still ruins of Polish bunkers there.
Malbork, not WWII but as former capitol of Teutonic Order, their castle, one of the biggest in Europe is very well worth seeing. Plan all day. Torun, nice former Teutonic town with plenty buildings of their architecture. -
Yes, westerplatte is worth a vist, there is also a small museum there.
Also look at the westerplatte Videos on Youtube to get a nice view before the visit, for example where the first casuality where (the spot is marked there) and in the video you can see how he was killed.
Also the church on the other side is full of bulletholes , worth a visit too.

Malbork is also a site of a huge massgrave of murdered German civilians from 1945, was excavated and investigated in the last year. An update would be interesting, was on the edge of the castle grounds i thinkComment

Was in all 3 places in 2004. All are lovely. Malbork, is also the largest brick building(s) in the world if I remember correctly, if not certainly the largest brick castle. I did not know about the mass grave, but the Russians shelled the hell out of the place in 1945 apparently. Down the road is the communist era statue commorating the "liberation" of the town.
Torun, is one of my favourite places in Poland. Great churches! Great beer!
Also worth taking a boat tour out to Westerplatte as you get a great view of the city and the shipyards up close on the way there.Comment
