Hi fellow members of the WAF. Last june and july I went to Poland to do a WW2 related trip, visiting many interesting places related to german occupation, holocaust, uprisings of the Warsaw Ghetto and Warsaw itself... During my intense 12 day unforgottable trip to Poland, I visited Krakow, Warsaw, Danzig, Hella Penisnula, and I was to 4 concentration camps (Auschwitz, Treblinka, Stutthof and Plaszow), a Stalag (Hohenstein), a Kriegsmarine fortification complex in Hella Peninsula (Schleswig Holstein surveillance tower and the biggest cannon position during the war), 4 museums, Oskar Schindler's Factory, and the remains of the 2 famous Guettos (Krakow and Warsaw). Many of this visits wouldn't have been possible if it wasn't for the invaluable help of my friend in Poland, who has been the best host possible. I have learned a lot from this trip. Poland is a great country, with many interesting places to visit, not only related to the WW2, but as I love this subject I focused the trip mainly on it. I took over 2000 photos and I will share with you the most interesting ones to depict what I saw and to make possible a virtual visit to all those places. It will took some days to upload the pics, but for sure it is worh doing it.
The first part will be Auschwitz. The most famous KZ is a huge area which was exclusively built for mass extermination. The old camp, Auschwitz I has brick buildings, and there could be found the Block 11 among other blocks, as well as the oldest gas chamber and crematorium. The entrance is also well known. Then, the huge Auschwitz II - Birkenau. A vast area full of barracks and the demolished crematoriums still there, as left by germans when they abandoned the camp. Pics speak for themselves.
And now the pics. Enjoy the trip.
