last resting place of Jack Banks, just 16 years old when he died, storming a machine gun nest.

He enlisted in the Army at age 15, his parents unhappy at the news of his joining up threatened that they would tell on him if he were to be posted overseas, of course the secrecy around Operation Overlord was so tight they had no idea he had been shipped out, untill it was too late

                    Hi,

So,apparently also the Allies, used their boys to fight the Germans...
                    I didn't know that.
I had the idea that only the Germans have done so, specially in the final stages of the War (1944-1945).
In Normandy the 12TH SS HJ had certainly many boys of 15/16/17 years old....

Anyway beautiful photos, and some unfortunately very sad, like this one of the boy killed.

                    regards

                    Luis

well its not that they used boys of 15 years upwards just that this boy lied about his age when he enlisted as im pretty sure you had to be 18 to enlist on the allies side(not sure about the Russians as there are plenty of pics of young russian soldiers of even 11 years old!!)

                        Hello,

this museum is on the road from Bayeux to Port en Bessin, you might be able to find it on google earth

Thanks for all the other comments, Gran Sasso, had Tiger on the brain for some reason, but you are correct indeed Panther wheels !

these young lads lied about their age to join up, wanting to go off and find adventure

next picture is Chateau Martragny, this is where we camped, beautiful grounds and great amenities, fresh baguette and pan au chocolate every morning

Bayeux is a very nice town, also home to the Tapestry depicting the story of the1066 Norman invasion of Britain
