Obersalzberg trip 15th till 17th of september 2009

    Hey Guys,

I made reservations for a trip to the Obersalzberg this year. I'm staying there from the 15th till the 17th of september 2009. I will be staying in the Hotel zum Turken (The best there is )

I will be there with an American friend of mine who I met there last year and we would like to show people the area if you are interested.

So if you have always wanted to go there and don't know the area that good. Jump aboard and lets make it a nice WAF trip to view the Obersalzberg and the Berchtesgaden area. Drink a good beer, eat good food and have fun.

    Let me know!

    Cheers
    Bob

Bob...things are coming together for our trip to the O. We are just waiting on med test results for my b in law before getting hotel and airline reservations. We will be trying to get the zum turken for the same dates as you. I'll let you know.

Bob...for a variety of reasons we were not able to book the zum turken for the dates you did. We will be there earlier in Sept than you. Is there anything that we should see or do that isn't obvious? We will be at the "O" for 3 full days. Do you think that is enough? Any other words of wisdom that you think we need?

      Thanks, Bob

I also wanted to let other WAF members know that my wife and I will be at the Obersalzberg the night of the 9th to the morning of the 13th of Sept. We will be staying at the zum Terken and would welcome any words of wisdom or maybe a visit from any others interested in seeing the area. This is our first trip to this area so If any of you would like to join us on our exploration feel free to do so.

                  Hi Bob,

Still to bad we are not there around the same time. By the way no I am reading this I remember that I promissed you to sent you some stuff. Be sure to check out the thirdreichinruins.com site before you go. It's a good source.

I will also scan you a good picture of the old layout where all the buildings stood. But I think you can also find it in the web.

The majority of the buildings at the Obersalzberg have been demolished, but there is a museum on the site which is worth visiting. The relics on display will not impress any of the collectors here, but it provides access to part of the old Bunker system, which is interesting to see.

The website for the museum is here. It is bi-lingual for those who do not speak German.

                    http://www.obersalzberg.de/obersalzberg-home.html?&L=1

Naturally, it is also recommended to visit the Kehlsteinhaus. I encourage those who are physically capable, to hike to the top, rather than to simply take the bus. The trails afford spectacular views, and the experience of reaching the summit is all the more rewarding.

Spend some time Berchtesgaden as well! One of Bavarias Alpine jewels! If one has time there is the Königssee, the Watzmann and so on.. Don't forget to visit Speers Bahnhof!

                    Best,

                    B.A.Vierling

Hi Bob...yes I too wish that we could have coordinated our trips. Thanks for anything you can offer to help me with the 'berg' experience. I have been pouring over the Third Reich in Ruins site and will use it as a main source for information on this trip.
