    battlefield holidays

    Hi guys,

Just wondering if you could mention here any battlefield holiday tour operators you have used in the past, or any operators you could recommend. The area of interest that I would like to go would be the WW II sites in Europe.
I have found a few but they are either limited in their number of dates for certain tours or they just don't sound like the business for me.

    Any pointers would be appriciated.

    Regards,
    Mark

    Mark,
My cousin works for this company http://www.battlefieldtours.co.uk/ and they tour all over Europe and are very good. Even my mum has been on tours and has been very satisfied (not an easy task )
His name is Ray Almond (see the list of staff) and he's a really top bloke...if you get on a trip with him leave room for lots of Guinness!!!!

      Holt's Tours

My parents haven been on 2 or 3 Holt's tours and have been very happy with the experience. Check out their website:

There is a fellow named Chilcott (British) that owns a gite in Bayeaux that gives excellent tours of the beaches. He can craft them to your desires as they are private tours. His bed and breakfast/gite is also a great place to stay. Less than 2 km from the D Day Museum there. Here is a link to his site: http://vrbo.com/vrbo/352.htm.

Hi Mark, if you wish to do Normandy you could try:

          http://www.battlebus.fr/

This company is ran by a friend of mine, Paul Woodage. Paul is a fellow British Airborne re-enactor who now lives in France. Paul is married to a French girl, Miriam, so he has plenty of local connections.
          Cheers, Ade.

Ade, that is a great site your friend has. I was about to e-mail him about some inland tours when I read that he's not doing any during the 60th anniversary week. So, we'll be on our own for that time period. Although, I do have Col. Chilcott booked for tours on the 7th and 8th of June.

              Cheers guys,

The Holts tours sounds the job alright. I'm looking for the all in type tour (travel and accomadtion included). The only problem is that I'm kind of hampered by my work (I'm in the merchant navy) so dates are a bit awkward for me. I'm definitely timing next year for june in Normandy. is there anybody else planning to be there for the 60th anniversary? If anyone is planning on taking the Holts tour let me know.

              Regards,
              Mark
