Normandy trip '08. Beaches, museums, cemeteries....

The name in the middle has particular significance to me.
Gunner John Wilson Cawte aged 19, 14418414 13th Regiment (Honourable Artillery Company) Royal Horse Artillery was killed on 26th June in St Manvieu Norrey while taking part in the ill fated 'Operation Epsom'. The Sexton he was in took a direct hit. He and three others were killed, their names are all here together on the Memorial.
He was a cousin of my father, my 2nd cousin.

Like in Colleville, the graves are spaced perfectly and in line but there are a few that aren't. Here is the resting place of the crew of an aircraft who couldn't be seperated in death so they lie together here in one grave....

And here, the crew of an armoured vehicle lie together....

The cemetery contains the graves of many different nationalities. Some have a different shape of headstone, muslims have a dome shape, French have a cross, the Germans have a pointed top to theirs. Here are a couple of Russian graves....

This cemetery is Bazenville. It is a small site just east of Bayeux in the middle of nowhere surrounded by farmland as you can tell by the oilseed rape crops surrounding it on all sides....

Last one of Bazenville, as you can tell by the length of the shadows time and light were against me....

Ok, as you can see in the pic, we are now at Dead Man's Corner Museum complete with an 88 in the front garden!
