Charitable Historical Reenactment Event
April 19-27, 2008
On the occasion of the 63rd WWII Liberation Day celebrations, a column of historical military vehicles will traverse Italy, starting in Rome, touching the most important cities in Lazio, Umbria, Tuscany, and Emilia Romagna, and reaching the Po River at Sermide. The column will trace a charity marathon symbolically linking the Liberation of Italy from the yoke of dictatorship and our past history to the hope for Peace and prosperity for the peoples of today.
The event has been developed by Museum Felonica and the GoticaToscana non profit association of Scarperia, whose statutory aims include the promotion of historical research on WWII in Italy. The GoticaToscana association has also organized successful large-scale HMV events such as the “Twin Cities” and “Route of the Heart” rallies in Florence and Siena, which took place for the 2006 and 2007 Liberation day celebrations.
The 2008 event will include several important sideshows, such as joint parachute jumps from a historic C47 airplane by Italian and US-based WWII Airborne reenactors, historical exhibitions, and public gatherings.
Several Italian Reenactment and historical research groups collaborate with the GoticaToscana association in organizing the event, together with Italian charity associations. Contacts with the Italian Red Cross are currently underway, as well as with the Italian Ministry of Defense, dependent units, and local government bodies.
As already noted, the event, besides its historical dimension, will be primarily aimed at collecting food, medical implements, and money for charity purposes and international aid, under the direct management and with the guarantee on final use by the charity organizations involved.
