First all, it was a pleasure and honour 'serving' with JohnM on the shoot. I know John from WW2 reenacting but bonding with him and others from the Ottawa-Montreal area was one of the highlights...I also want his LSAH tunic!
Our group of 12 Germans included 4 descendants (Arnulf Hennes, Mark Arhendt, James Leu and Kurtis Montgomery) Although we provided military training and the bivouac lifestyle, they provided us with a direct link to history. It was a perfect blend which made the opportunity that much more special. Unfortunately, the production chose or neglected to provide any focus on the German side of the issue, unless it was to reinforce something distasteful, like shooting a medic or priest. But alas, I digress.
The other Germans that filled out Erste Gruppe of the 72 Infantry Regiment of the Imperial German Army were:
Unteroffizier Gunther Dietz
Gefreiter Johan Kleinberg
Gefreiter Karl Langer
Muskateer Jeremias Bertsch
Muskateer Gunther Wistland
Muskateer Klaus Pruiksma
Muskateer Oskar Weichel
Muskateer Johan Spielen
Thanks for the tidbit. We would like to know more as we usually do WW2 impressions but are all historians at heart. I tried to find some info on the 72 Inf Reg but never even saw it listed in the 1916 OOB
Hey everyone, <O</O <O You might recall I and other members of this forum were extras (WWI German Soldiers) in a WWI docu-drama in last summer. It is airing next week. Here is the link for times for those of you in Canada and have access to the CBC Television Network.
<O</O <O You can see a preview on You-tube… the use of editing and special effects have brought the action to a whole new level of intensity. It was a moving experience for all of those involved.
Excellent photos! Looks like it was a great time. Wish I could have attended. My great grandfather, "Papa" Gustav Schmeisser, served with the 130th Lothringen Regiment.
Thanks for sharing, sure seems like it was a great time.
My Great grandfather served with the 28th Infantry Division out of Pennsylvania. He was stationed in the Gerardmer, Sector (Alsace) France for the duration of the War.
Very nice pictures, I was about to say 'These aren't as close to original as can be, you aren't covered in mud', until I saw the the other part of the photo's. They all look very nice and this must've been a nice experience
