Absolutely! I have a number of items to guys that were lost, and even guys wounded and flown out of the Kessel. But to have something from somebody who was captured and returned is truly in incredible. To think of the hell this man went through!!!!!!!

I remember reading about them marching off to captivity and those that fell were shot or clubbed in the head. The straining of the feces to retrieve undigested millet sticks out too. Gen. Rodenburg of the 76. Infanterie was kind enough to send me an autographed Foto and Werdegang. He was held until 1955 and lived until he was 98!

If possible, could you post the another Foto, from the book, of Lt. Metzger? It is the one where he is wearing the Russian fur cap and combat tunic. Again, congratulations.

                              Wonderful!!

Thank you very much for posting this! I was in Germany for 3 years in the late 1970's, and spoke with as many German veterans as I could. I have always had a special sympathy and regard for the soldiers who were caught in the Stalingrad Kessel, and to see this is very impressive! I am glad he survived and was released so early!

                              Vielen Dank!
