it is quite interesting! this memorial stone is placed at the entrance of the german war cemetery not far from vossenack, and everytime i go there to put down some flowers i read the touching incription. its actually not far from my home... next time i go i can take some pictures of the cemetery if you want me to.

I've read quite a bit on this battle and the loss of life on the American side was simply staggering.The Battle of the Hurtgen Forest was completely unnecessary. The Germans in command couldn't understand why the Americans would needlessly squander their forces in an area that was of no great strategic or tactical value. The war was as good as over. I believe that it was the ego of the Commanding General in the area that sent many, many men, on both sides, to a needless and purposeless death. Of course, this is all personal opinion.
