Gentlemen,
please I am not joking these are true stories :
As an officer candidat (1967) we had to take our army driving training
in Hildesheim (Northern Germany).
HFw Kempa ( a kind of a short guy ) had been running the school
(attached to HFlgBtl 1)
He himself fought at Monte Cassino and frequently met with his old comrades
on post.
As a "waiter" during these "meetings" I was asked to wear a Fallschirmjaeger
Uniform ( 2nd Lt).
Sometimes during lessons we really managed to wind him up and during
lessons he got his K98 out of the wardrobe ... opened the window
and shot down some birds.... !!
He himself introduced Fw a.D. Wenzel to us and we got a true impression
of how he still felt about not having been awarded the KC although
he fought on top of Fortress Eben Emael - in command - till hours later when
Olt Witzig arrived
Later on I meet Major a.D. Moers in Altenstadt... similar frustration here again..
Mj Moers had still not overcome the heavy disappointment about not having
been awarded the KC although he had been in charge of the
"Gran Sasso Operation" to free Mussolini !
You remember... instead Sturmbann Fhr Skorzeny got it !!
Good bless these brave men ....
Yours sincerelu
