I just got my first Pickelhaube today - a Ersatz Felt Artillery with the grey tombak fittings.
Unfortunately when I opened the box, I discovered that in the back where the brim meets the hat, there is a three or four inch tear held together by tape on the inside. As it was won at auction, I can't return it.
Does anybody have any suggestions about possibly fixing or at least managing the damage? I thought about taking it to one of the local people who produce custom felt cowboy hats, but I'm not sure if the "felt technology" is the same, or if they could even do anything.
This is the only picture I have of the Picklehaube at the moment. If anybody needs to see the acutal tear I'll try and take some pictures. The abnormal tilt should have given it away to me -- it occurs because the brim on that side doesn't hold the hat up.
