    Thank you, it is indeed an interesting item. I acquired it from Weitze, where it was labeled “Polizei-Felddivision Ärmelabzeichen für Angehörige der Polizei-Gebirgs-Regimenter” - sleeve insignia for mountain regiments of the police field division.

    I would be interested in learning more about these formations, if anyone here has a source.

                      Certainly, they are actually held in place only by pressure of the glass cover against the foam. The foam is relatively soft, so it compresses a bit while still maintaining sufficient force to prevent the items from moving. For metal artifacts with more thickness than the cloth ones, where I determined that the pressure exerted on them would be more than I was comfortable with, I sliced cuts into the foam with an x-acto blade to allow the items to settle further into the foam without risking damage to delicate pins and latches.

                      Note that the pictures are taken with the cases lying flat on a table, so that I could open the cases to prevent glare without the items falling out.
