Very nice cross I'm just curious as to why this alleged BD-member (presumably with a military rank) was awarded the cross w/o swords

They're just beautiful, particularly the Star. I'm assuming it was worn on the left pocket like the Star to the Grand Cross WWI (and if they'd won by HG in WWII), is that correct. Stunning craftsmanship and well presented.
