I teach high school and college and I re-arranged things in my high school classroom this summer. I have a typical high school classroom except I have a small office in the back also (with windows so you can view the items from the regular classroom). Of course I bring in US Civil War and Axis and Allied WWII stuff special but I thought you all might like to see my permanent displays that stay at school all the time. Of course I don't leave expensive items over there but I try to spark interest in many different periods by using artifacts and pictures.

I dug the plaque on the left out of a box headed for the trash. It was a list of all the men who died in the Vietnam War from our school. The helmet on the right was thrown out by the family and a fellow dug it out and sold it to me. The helmet was worn by the 6th Inf. Div. vet in countless parades no doubt. On the helmet are the battles in which he participated.Attached Files

I bought the guncase at the bottom of the picture for $10 at a garage sale. While talking to the seller I discovered that the case was purchased by his father when he went away to West Point in the 1940s. The father rose to the rank of full bird colonel before being killed in action (helicopter was shot down by enemy fire) in 1969. The family was just now parting with the case. So I made it into a bookshelf and labeled it for posterity.Attached FilesLast edited by Military Trader; 09-29-2009, 11:35 PM.
