Canadian Medical doctor, a ww1 veteran based on his ribbons and he continued serving as a Medical Corps major in ww2. Most likely a professional soldier. His Battle Dress is 1940 dated but has late (UK made) canvas shoulder titles!

The fabric tag is like those seen on British BD's. Later the Canadians simply ink stamped such information straight on the lining materialComment
