    My biographical collection (part 1)

    Greetings all.

I am new to this board, having just received one of my relatives' WWII medals. This set represents the time spent in the Kriegsmarine/Afrika Korps by one man:

From left to right: EK2, EK1, Blockade Runners Badge, Black Wound Medal, Gold Wound Medal.

Centre: Combined German/Italian Service Medal for Africa, his dogtags, and two recovered pieces of shrapnel which resulted in the Gold Wound Badge.

I am hoping to discover some more history, information and possible accompanying paperwork on these items!

I will post some close pictures of the items once the batteries recharge on my digital camera :/

    Just thought I would share...

Thanks for the kind words! As per request (and some fresh batteries) here are some higher-res closeups.

As for the paperwork, I haven't found any yet. I am hoping to discover his Wehrpass someday soon.

Wow!! Nice grouping you have. If I can and it is possible, I really want to have a set like yours.

          Cheers

Is the gold wound maker marked, can we see the flip side?

Warren, the gold wound badge is marked (to the best that my poor eyes can tell) as "L/54". The marking is at the bottom of the rear of the badge, below the loop which retains the pin/clasp. The mark itself appears to be slightly curved, much like a crescent. I will post a picture, but I warn you in advance my digital camera is not the greatest at taking closeups (my early picture postings are proof of this!)

Here are the full rears of both the black and gold wound badges. The black is marked on the rear L/56, just above the helmet.
