    German police 1895 bayonet

    Hello
I purchased this austrian 1895 bayonet with a police eagle on the crossguard.
Usually this eagle eagle is on the pommel.
Do you known some other austrian 1895 bayonets like this one and do you know the meaning of the number on the other side of the crossguard ?
    Regards
    Alain

    Alain,

This eagle is not a police eagle marking. The Polizei inspection eagle marking has a single letter tucked under the left wing of the eagle. The Pol markings on bayonets were the same as those seen on pistols and rifles.

      Thanks Schupo
Do you know what it could be?
There are also austrian 1895 bayonets with the same eagle on the pommel.
      Regards

The bayonet is mostly a CS M1895 marked with very light visible ZP in circle, and with DR property stamp on crossguard, mainly this are observed on pommel or with Ws1 proof, of Wels HZA, but many as here are unreworked, and there was too majority of police equipment. b.r.Andy
PS any pictures of pommel avialable, unit marking?

Majority of them were sent to Bulgaria post 1940, i had similar marked on pommel with NS eagle like is here on crossguard. This is unreworked, but the 471 is not typical for germans. The remains of Zbrojovka Praga circle stamp is visible. How is stamped the scabbard hook? b.r.Andy

                Hi Andy
I think it is stamped CSZ but I will tell you more in a few days when it will be at home.

                  Hi Andy
I got the bayonet today and made new pics.
Do you think the scabbard is correct or it would have to be stamp as the same CZ stamp of the blade ?
                  Regards

SCHUPO (GW) makes a good point. The Austrian Steyr Model 1912 pistol being a good example of what he is referring to. FP

The scabbard was made in Brno for CSZ bayonet M1895, anyway it was mostly captured by germans in 1939 and signed with property stamp of the depot, so in origin condition should be this bayonet have a ZP in circle scabbard, but mostly changed already in depot or post. Any stamps on pommel? Looks like the piece has not typical bulgarian postwar rework features.b.r.Andy

Thanks to all for your help.
There is no stamp on the pommel.
