    1944 produced Walther PP

    Hi.

Im considering buying a late war produced Walther PP with mismatched slide for 320 USD. The pistol comes with a black leather holster marked "M" and "W" with a rifle in the middel of a circle and a spare magazine. If haven't seen this type of holster before so I would appreciated any thoughts you might have on it. Also any comments on the pistol itself would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards.

Frame and slide seem to be mismatched.

Indeed they are. But they are both produced during the same year. Have you seen this kind of holster before? The magazine pouch is usually located on the front of the holster whereas on this holster its on its shoulder. I've tried to find any information about the maker of the holster, but so far I've come up empty.

I would post your questions & pictures on the P.38 PP-PPK Collector Forum.

Holster is ok, so called commercial.
As for the gun, frame is earlier than 1944 type. I don't like the serial number font on the frame too.

The reason I assumed it was produced in 1944 is because I looked at an overview that shows the correlation between the serial number and the year of manufacture (see the link below)

What do you find off-putting by the serial number?

Thank you so much for your help!

I agree with Kris, the font on the frame looks funny to me. Walther used fairly consistent fonts, this does not look like any if them to me. On the other hand, why fake a mismatch? Probably the photos, but the grips look post war to me as well. They don't have that mottled brown bakelite look to them. I can't recall the name of the company, but they look like an American made replacement grip from the 1950's-60's. T

I believe you have a WWII slide mated to a post-war frame. I don't see a prof on the frame. And either there is a round in the chamber or the catridge indicator pin is stuck and might need sime work. The right grip has been cut or broken at the top. Without seeing the reverse of grips, it is hard for me to tell if post war. Magazine and finger extension probably post war too.

I judge the holster post war because of shape and latching stud. $350 for a shooter would be okay I guess but it will never be anything more. And you should check the catridge indicator pin.

JUNGCO, I guess its a sticker or a price tag on the back of the gun.

JoeW, i think you are right as I have a postwar PP which has very similar serial number font. Im truly thankful for all the help you guys have given me on this frankenstein pistol.

Two years ago I purchased a beautiful commercial Walther PPK produced in 1939/1940 with a leather holster (marked AKAH & DRGM) and one extra magazine for the equivalent of 450 USD, so I won't be buying this one, thanks to the most helpful people at this forum.

Any thoughts on the pistol I already own?
