I waited a long time to get a nice one, here it is IMO.

I did not clean it, but the details are nice recognizable...

Is one able to tell me something about the owner, or are these numbers not decoded?

A very nice disc. Unfortunately, without the ID card (Dienstausweis) that accompanied the disc, you are very unlikely to ever know the name of the former officer who owned it.

With this serial number we are dealing with a nuesilber planchet. This disk could easily return to a beautiful silver white finish.

To the membership, if this disk can be cleaned by non-destructive cleaning, why not clean it so that it looks like it just left the Berlin Mint?

Reverse of Gestapo 9946.

I purchased Gestapo Disk 9946 from our esteemed fellow member Joe Wotka last month.

Joe sent me some pictures of 9946 during our negotiations, and the warrant disk was heavily patinated. As far as I am concerned, there is a difference between "tarnish" and "Patina" What I saw was merely tarnish.

When I received the disk, the question was do I remove the tarnish with Tarnex? I held off, and of course I played with the disk, incessently.

At the end of the day, to my surprise, the disk began to lighten. The next day, I was still debating whether to clean it in Tarnex or not.

At the end of the second day, to my astonishment, all of the tarnish was gone, leaving the disk in the beautiful silver/white condition when it left the Berlin mint.

Joe told me that the disk had rested in a Riker mount box for years, and had not been played with. Apparently all 9946 needed was some TLC.

I did not save Joe's pictures, merely printing them, and cannot post the "before" pictures for the membership.

If Joe could do us all a favor, and post his pictures of 9946, I'll leave it up to the WAF membership as to what had more eye appeal. Tarnished or clean?

Joe's pictures of 9946 refreshed my memory as to how the disk looked when I first received it. I have to upgrade my initial opinion that the disk was "tarnished," to say that the disk had aged to what could be called a true age "patina".

It looked beautiful with that age patina, but again, the regs called for a "white metal disk."

Please keep in mind that no chemical cleaners were used. Just two solid days of handling removed that patina.

What say the membership; for the "before" pictures, or for the cleaned disk? Or ?
