    Vet Luger

Here is a sad tale, i have recently been doing a deal with a US vet, I have agreed to buy a number of items from him, his war Booty!, caps, flags, paper work, belts etc. I have paid a fair price as i believe vets deserve to be treated fairly. Because the deal has been fair the vet has offered me his prize trophy, a Luger that he aquired from from a crashed Luft pilot, it is mint! The sadness is I am the UK where it is almost impossible to own a live pistol
I don't want to shoot anyone but would like to own the Luger untouched, for me owning a deact Luger is like owning a classic car without the engine. What i am to do? is there any way to ship the Luger to the UK via a section 5 dealer?
Having it deact is better than not having it at all

    Tim,

Boy that is a sad story. I don't know anything about the firearms laws in the UK, so I'm afraid I can't help you out there.

Where is the luger coming from?

      Tim,

Not likely that you will be able to import a live firearm into England. It would also be very sad if the Luger should be deactivated just so you can bring it into England but even that may present a problem due to your country's strict import and customs laws. It's best that it stays as a valuable collectible then a piece of scrap!!! Just my thoughts - Bill

Let the gun be. Do not deactivate it. It should be sold to someone who can own live firearms.

          Cheers.

I agree don't mess with the gun. Let someone else have it. I also agree that owning a deactivated gun is like owning a classic car without an engine. Your laws in England suck

There's a guy from England in my local gun club. Really nice guy who's a true gun enthusiast. He tells me that people in England have lots of guns even though guns are no no. And he's not thinking of criminals.

It's a real dilemma for me, i wanted to keep the vets war booty together, in fact i told him i would. The vet is going to give me the details of the Luger and get a member of his family to photograph it and e-mail me the pics, i will post them when they arrive. I have already struck a deal for some paper work, included in the lot is the capture paper for the Luger. Tim.

Tim, if you can get the Luger over here and De-activate it I say go for it. A piece of scrap! I payed £700 for my "piece of scrap". Do you wear your German medals? Do you walk around wearing your M40's? What I'm trying to say is is that it is still history and I don't think you are ruining it by deactivating it. Besides, what would you do with a live one? Shoot paper targets.... Keep the collection together and you have the paperwork. I would walk into your nearest police station and inquire about it.

                    Just my thoughts

I actually shoot my firearms collection. I deer hunt with my K98, and enjoy taking my P38 and P08 to the range from time to time to punch holes in paper. As such, I really enjoy my firearms collection more so than I do my medal collection. I understand of course that shooting historic firearms isn't possible in many countries with strict firearms laws.

Of course Roy, I'm sure anybody would love to do that and I offer no ill respect to those who do. But, It's splitting the collection and having no luger? Which would you do?

Speaking for myself, I would do without the Luger.

Its really ashame the way the people of your country let your rights be dissolved by your government.
Maybe if those ladies of the night had the small derringers ours had back in those times they would have not been done in by the ripper!Move to the states and you can have as many firing weapons you want.
I read where your country passed a law prohibiting fox hunting, whats going to be next, Fishing?Get the Luger if you can. Regards Danny

                              Hi ,

Tim i belive that it is not possible to inport the item into the country as it is a very restricted weapon, their is a small chance that a dealer could inport it for deactification but i would not count on it, assuming it could be inported it could be kept live and put on a class 7, but could not be kept at home .
It's a pitty that the vet is not a relative as it could then be owned at home as a trophy of war if he lived in England but not sure if that would apply to a inport.
But it would all be a lot of time and effott that would more than likly fail, better to sell it someone over there a forgo the hasle and buy a old spec deact over here if you could live with one.
                              All the best Merdock
