Hi William, both are good original medals but we call them "type 1" as we don't know if they were produced from Deschler or another firm.

      My books:

      - THE WEHRPAß & SOLDBUCH OF THE WH
      - THE SS TK RING
      - THE ITALIAN-GERMAN MEDAL
      - THE ANTI PARTISAN BADGE
      - THE AWARDS OF THE LW

      and more!

Some years back, these were attributed to Deschler in some collecting circles through a misinformed process of elimination ie. it was previously believed (by some) that the SS-DA 3. & 4. were only manufactured by two firms, namely 'Deschler' & 'Petz & Lorenz' and with the other type having already been attributed to 'P&L', it stood to reason that this type must have been made by 'Deschler'. Period photographic evidence has, however, since emerged which shows the P&L awards as being of another different type and so along with the coming to light of evidence to show that these awards were also made by 'Schickle' and 'St&L', the process of elimination can not say for certain, who made the type shown above...Deschler or St&L.

This "type 1" could be put in relation with the maker Rettenmaier.

We know Rettenmaier produced the SS-DA too from his pricelist.
After some time Giel discovered this pricelist another guy found a box from Schwab-Gmund in which there were some SS-DA, all of the type 1. This relation is IMO stronger than all the rest we had until today from period catalogues.

Maybe I am missing something, but all I see here is a standard LDO seller's pricelist with Rettenmaier's masthead, which happens to include the SS Runic device for the ribbon bar @ R.M.15 per 100.

Sorry for my mistake. This is a late war pricelist, and you are correct on it there is only the price of the SS device. Connection with Rettenmaier was due to the box with badges connected to the Rettenmaier production.

Ahah! I remember now...that thread from before last Christmas.
Personally, I do not believe that just because certain (unmarked) medals are found in a box containing various other awards by a certain maker, that they must automatically also have been manufactured by this maker. This opinion is now reinforced by the above posted document, which shows that not only was Alois Rettenmaier a manufaturer of awards, but was also, to some extent, a licensed LDO reatailer. Whilst the actual SS Awards do not appear on the above document, I have a full copy of the LDO pricelist dated 3 months after this one which along with the SS Auflagen also shows all four SS Awards. It shows both the wholesale prices and the recommended retail prices. I know that the purists among us would like to think that one manufacturer would never sell an award made by another firm, but to me, this pricelist indicates that as long as a firm was an official LDO outlet it could sell any LDO awards.
