    Questions for "Leuchtpistole" specialists !

Here's one of my M.34 flare pistols ; it was made by Walther. The proof stamps are the ones typical for this factory from 1940 (next post). It's still maker marked, not with the "ac" code (it replaced the mm in 1940 too).

But I wonder why the year is not below the maker's mark, as it's almost (obviously) always the case.
Any idea ? Any other example of a similar lack of the year on your flare gun ?

I'll post some other amazing characteristics of this flare pistol after this point is solved (if ever it can be solved ).

    Thanks !

Walter's proof stamp (from 1940, it replaced the previous marks) :

No opinions about the absence of date yet, so let's go further...

It's a classical M.34, but it has a loading indicator on the left of the hammer, which is rarely the case ; obviously, another non-" "textbook" " item...

I guess it could be a transition model from the M.34 to the M.34 "war" model which appeared in 1940, or an improvement brought to some M.34s... Maybe collectors here could add more infos about that ?

Anyway, both 2 models continued to be made till 1943, then the M.34 was discontinued.<!-- / message --><!-- attachments -->

And the marking on the handle, denoting this flare gun was issued to a KM unit depending on the Marinestationskommando "Nordsee" (Wilhelmshaven).

              Chris,

This morning, I bought a model that is identical to yours shown above. It does not have a year marking either and it just shows it is made from the Walther factory in Zella-Mehlis and the Walther banner underneath.
May I ask how you found out it was issued to a Marine unit? On the back of the handle on my flare gun, it mentions 'N2005'.
It is also interesting that I located a small letter M in front of the horizontal aligned proof stamp (there are two stamps vertical and one horizontal), so it must be Kriegsmarine related.

              Cheers,
              Laurens

                Bonjours Laurens,

I had lost any hope of a reply !
Interesting. Mine comes from an old man here, who took it on a dead german officer during the liberation of Cannes (southern France) in summer 1944 ; well, that's what he said, but I tend to believe him.

The "eagle M" stamp is also present on my FP, you can see it on the pic in post #5. Do you have the possibility to take some pics of yours ? I'd be pleased to see it.
