    IJA Type 90 Helmet

    Hi Guys,

Would like to share my recent find. Finally, an IJA Type 90 helmet.

It's a size large helmet with a Shouwa 19 (1944) dated pig skin liner. All three "Zabuton" (cushions) are included.

There is a green streak of paint on the helmet, and I'm not sure what's the real purpose, maybe for camouflage.

There is an interesting triangular symbol, a maker mark?

As for the chinstrap cord, could that be a field made? The black thread seems act as a equalizer, or stopper. (I thought it was a reproduction at first)

The previous owner was 岡田 (Okada).

    Here are the photos:

Taka the green stripe is a "touch up" stripe. not camo. shells were painted & stacked then assembled & stripe added. Chinstraps look incorrect. Material looks wrong, tips should be sewn into points and black thread hand stitching is odd. At best, period replaced but questionable

        Hi Jareth-san,

Thank you for the explanation on the touch up stripes!

I know the chin cord is not official, to me they might be field made.

That don't really bother me at all, the official ones are around, no sweat.

        Regards,
        Taka

              Hello Taka-san,
Congratulations that's a nice helmet, I love it!

About the chinstrap I have seen the same black stiches on a flight googles strap before, worked as stoppers too.

              Best regards,
              Mathieu.

Hello Taka, great helmet, from informations gathered from another forum and posted by a very reliable expert, the triangular mark, is the manufacturing mark of Osaka Rikugun Kōsho.
                  All the best
